Once again blogging ...
i miss blogging very much - Today while i was reading my blog topics - i found some drafts of uncompleted topics i wanted to finish one day but i didn't, so i decided to just publish them (for the sake of blogging)

* you may find those drafts very old and not matching my current state - But just these were pieces of my mind some day:

أنا تعبت تعبت من بلدنا تعبت من مصر من الناس اللي عيشين فيها ومن النظام اللي ماشي فيها

But .. i have to talk to anybody -- have to till any one about what i'm in .

during every ones' life, there are some moments that this one want to feel that his closest people are around him...

some times you think that you have persons that whatever happened they would be your closest and your best at all..

والناس بيهمها المناصب وبيهمها الفلوس قبل أي حاجة تانية في الحياة

الجامعة من أكتر الجهات الحكومية المؤثرة علي الشعب لأن هي اللي مفروض بتنمي الشباب وقدرتهم وتعلمهم إزاي يكملوا حياتهم

بس يظهر إن احنا يا اما مش عارفين كده يااما عارفين وقاصدين اللي بيتعمل في الطلبة ده

سواء كان قمع سياسي أو ثقافي أو غيره من أنواع القمع اللي بتحصل في الجامعات الحكومية

سيبكوا من الجامعة عشان احنا مش قد الناس دي ده رئيس الجامعة وزير ....

تعالوا نبص على مستوى اضيق

Commitment & Responsibility

WOW, back to blogging ...

today I'm gonna talk about Commitment & Responsibility..
they're very special characters of Egyptians (kidding of course).

No one like to be responsible !!, But it's not about being in love with being responsible it's about the necessity of responsible; being responsible is a duty, that you must do.

With responsibility ... you will delegate every thing to others, may also others delegate them also to others, and so on ...

When we find some one who is responsible we throw every thing to him, never trying to do anything by ourselves ... and that leads to either this person fall ( he is not superman ) or hate being responsible and look for someone to throw at least part of what he has to him ( most of time if found he throw them all)

.....

The other thing is Commitment ... which is the other side of the coin ..
being committed means you finish your task to its very end, means that you try to finish it perfectly, No excuses .. no alternatives!!

If you have a team of 10 members and only 1 of them is not committed and not responsible there is a probability which may exceed 50% that the teams' task will fail.

I'm tired of dealing with irresponsible and uncommitted people, no one want to do anything .. no one want to take the responsibility; all throw it to me.

I don't know what to do when I'm the only one who is doing his best for a certain task, when i find all other mates just escaping from taking even 1% of the responsibility of the task.

Should i quit doing anything with others, should i stop care about others... or what to do !!!

Finally :
Wanting to do anything is not enough, even doing it isn't; You must take the responsibility and be committed to finish it(if you really want it to be done).

Path of Life

Can you please describe your life ?

Do you know the end of the path you are walking now ?

Why did you choose this path ?

Did you choose it or you just walked to it blindly ?

What if you have chosen another path ?

In Graph theory : the graph is set of nodes and edges ... these edges connect nodes.

I think our life is like the graph and we are acting like a graph traverser who started from the source Node and is moving toward ...??

So they are many kinds of people (traverser)

1- people who just stay at a node and don't move to another, just because they don't want to.

2- people who reached one node that connected with many edges and they are confused which edges they select(most of them never move).

3- people who select a path to traverse but they failed to get to the end of it so they either got stuck in the middle of it or they accidentally reach other node they didn't want to reach it .

4- people who select a path and they reach its' end (their target) but they found the targeted node not as expected (ie. not the value they wanted to get from it).

5- people who select a path and they reach its' end then they found it as expected (SUCCESS)

So what kind of traversers are you ?? and do you think it's too late to switch to another kind ??

World Finals 2010 Dairy - day 4-5

Again it's 6:00 am ...

i'm saying : "es7o ylla 3shan 3wzen nnzl nftar we ntla3 bsor3a nktb sf7et el math fe el library"

they woke up .. my hand is in bad state so i didn't participate in writing ..

we finished writing it then attached it to our library (3 typical versions)

We were late so we took the last Bus - which wait every last person to go .. so we arrived at the end of the talk of Bill Boucher (the executive director of ACM ICPC World Finals)

he was very funny -- if you forgot your ID so you have to do 10 "d3't" and he has to put his shoes on your t-shirt

one of the judges forgot his ID and he had to do so :D

it's dress rehearsal time (Practice session - like a demo contest with real problems so they can test the Contest environment)

Some rules you have to hear .. i heard But the funny thing that the speaker was Bill Boucher and he is so funny

one thing he said :"you have to be here with your t-shirt as outer layer and your badge - Don't bring any other thing"

so contestants asked them and he said "you can of course have your glasses and your totem also"

again contestants asked him about pants :D and he said " it's not important the most important thing is your badge and your t-shirt so if you don't want to wear pants :D you don't have too, But some marshals(runners) may not like that :D"

it's 9:30 am, it's the time to start the practice contest ... we started to solve and we managed to finish the three problems we had .. and got a good rank

we were happy for our performance and Dr.Salwa & our coach started to believe that we are gonna make a new achievement in the real contest

After the rehearsal(12:00 pm) we went to have our lunch at the university dining hall (the same place as the previous day)

From 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm there was "IBM Fun Activities"

it was a very funny activities they told us that every team will have to finish some games.

this activity was consist of 3 levels:

The first level is solving easy sudoku and making 4 cars .. of small peaces they gave to us (as my hand was not well i took the sudoku and they took the cars .. after i finished my suduko i was helping them in making these 4 cars)

The second level (after finishing the first) solving medium sudoku and making a horse toy and another big toy too ( i solved the sudoku and then helped them)

after that,

The Third level: solving Hard sudoku and making a real bicycle :D -- again i solved the sudoku and tried to help then on the bicycle

We finished all three levels and moved to "IBM Technology show case"

during the "IBM show case" they held a contest between all continent - a strange contest they chose from every continent contestants 5 so they could represent their continent and i was selected in the team of EuroAfrica.

The questions was strange "i.e. telling a story then asking what is the expected number of cars that will be in china in 2020"

we were close to win but we didn't - it finished with score 4:3:1 (our team was 3)

After that we went back to our hotel, have our dinner -- watched the ICPC challenge Finals

then went to our room so we could sleep.

it's again 6:00 am - the ICPC world finals day.

it was a very strange day ... none of us was in good mood and we all lost our concentration.

we never did that bad in a contest - we participated as a team together in more than 60 contests But that was the strangest - problems were easy but we didn't manage to solve more than one problem (i think if we were in form we would solve 5-6 problems in this contest)

strange situation that in the contest we faced a problem that we have solved one like it before - But during the contest we couldn't - after the contest finished (on the same minute we said the solution was "Grid Compression") that was strange .. But "thanks Allah i'm sure that is the best for us"

after the contest i wasn't in mood, i didn't know how could i look in my coaches face. But i believed that our real level qualify us to solve more than 5 problems and that was because Allah doesn't want us to do that and that was the best for us to do so. so i said "el7mdllah" and moved on.

At the end of this day there was closing ceremony it has great shows and i enjoyed it.

World Finals 2010 Dairy - day 3

Here we are,

The third day was full of actions.

it was the opening day of the World Finals.

the schedule is full, we managed to participate on all events (coach & Dr.Salwa asked us not to.. )

.. as usual the day started by waking up at 7:00 am to have our breakfast ... then we had to go quickly to our rooms to wear the heavy clothes to start the activities

at 8:00 am the buses started to move to HEU (Harbin Engineering University)

at 8:30 am the opening ceremony had started, first they introduced all the teams, they sorted all the teams then introduced them on the stage-after the introducing every team moved to the seats (they gave us a map to the hall which show where is our seats)

then the ceremony started, i liked the 12 girls bands too much, it was a great experience to see Chinese art (live)

the ceremony lasts two hours after that we have to move to the library team area so we know our place in the contest and get our t-shirts and hear some rules :D

while i was in my way to the team area, i was walking with the coach's mother because her shoes was not prepared to walk on ice .. But unfortunately she fall and take my hand with her, so my hand got hurt (2 times)

we moved to the contest area .. and took our t-shirts then went to the dining hall to have our lunch - one of the strangest launches i had ever had .. (let the pictures describe it instead of me)

it's now 1:30 pm and we have to go to ICPC snow Park so we start the activity of the ICPC snow sculpture

ICPC snow sculpture : it's a competition which the teams compete to make the best letter in the sentence " ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest Harbin Engineering University "

they assign each letter to 2 teams, so we had to work with North Texas university to make the letter 'L'

we managed to make it like L of titres game and worked for around 3 hours in it :D, i think we made a good one (judge it from the pictures)

- I worked to hard and forced my hand to work, so after this activity my hand was hurting me too much

We had to go back to the hotel have our dinner then go to the ICE SCULPTURE ( i have seen many pictures about it so i really wanted to see it)

BUT :S:S

my hand was hurting me too much .. i started to ask about first aid in the hotel but they were helpless .. they told me to go to the hospital to do X-Ray to now either it's fine or not

i told them it's not broken , i know But they said that i must go to the hospital and told me to take a taxi to the hospital ... Amr & Sadek let the buses too and offered to go with me to the hospital - i was so sad that i'm not going to attend the ice sculpture

Thanks to Allah we found a student (i can't pronounce his name so i'll call him M) who worked as a reporter for the university he was soo helpful and he went with us to the hospital and deal with the doctors and helped us too much

I had the X-ray and the doctor told me that my hand is not broken - i just has to put a medicine and relax it for 2 weeks ( he is kidding the contest is after tomorrow , that's what i told my self)

then M take the name of the medicine and bought it to us and bought also a bandage and we took a taxi to the hotel again..

It was 9:30 pm, the buses left the hotel at 8:30 and they will be back at 10:00 pm

M offered us to take a taxi to the ice sculpture and he will go with us and guide us there so we can see as much as we can.

So we take a taxi and went, it was around 9:50 and we are there he told us that we have 30 mins to play :D and we enjoyed this 30 minutes as much as we could, we thanked him lot then take the buses to hotel again.

We were very tired so once we reached our rooms we fall asleep.

World Finals 2010 Dairy - day 2

But the blogger doesn't work on china and i couldn't find chance to do as i did on the first topic.

I'm back now (home sweet home) but i'll complete this dairy so i'll now talk about day2 in Harbin

This day was amazing we wakeup early at 6:00 am as we have to have our breakfast - it was a good breakfast i had (salad, bread, cake, noodles, tea & apple juice)

(kol shwya w7da tege t2olna "coffee or tea :D" mrra a2ol tea we mrra coffee :D + kanet b2a kaman btege t2olna "excuse me" fa a2om ana rage3 lwra t2om hya tfrsh el mndel 3la rgle 3shan mw23sh 3la hdome hehe)

after the breakfast we moved quickly to our suite :) then my team mates went back to sleep but i couldn't so i wrote my first blog topic (day1) then @ 12:01 pm we went to the dining hall to have our lunch (start to have strange things :s i tried sushi :s and it's very very bad - so i decided not to eat sea food there

After that we changed our clothes wear the ice clothes and moved to the bus (elcoach mrdesh yege m3ana)

It was a trip to the snow sculpture

Harbin has the biggest and the best snow sculpture in the world

That was very new to me to see snow what about seeing that huge amounts and extraordinary beautiful shapes made out of snow :D - it was a great experience that i had.

the problem we had this day that the camera's battery didn't last more than 30 minutes i don't know why exactly but it seems that this extremely cold weather ( this day it was -35) affect the battery of the camera, but because there were many wonderful views i started to use my mobile camera, i'll not talk about what happened there but i'll let the pictures talk :D

After that we decided to enter a coffee shop to get some warm :D - but it was a very wrong decision after we went out again ... it was soooo cold -- we just had a hot drink so we are warm inside but it's very cold outside so we decided to go to the bus (it was around 5:00 pm) and we was very tired...

the buses took us to the hotel (Shangri La) we changed our clothes then went to the dinner hall we had a strange dinner (strange chicken and beef ... also i ate noodles - Amr ate "ghazl el bnat") and there was a the snow sculpture orientation (they explained to us what should we do in the next day and what is the letter will our team made of snow next day)

That was a very hard day - i was soo exhausted so once we went to our suite i fall asleep

World Finals 2010 Dairy - the road to Harbin & day 1

hello , long time no posts

but you know i have been doing my best in ACM training last 2 months "ya rab yege fyda"

I have decided to blog every day of this wonderful trip to share with you my joy and happiness.

So lets start with the (longest trip i have ever made)

31/1/2010

my flight was @ 10:30 pm Cairo time - i have to go early because there is a match between egypt and Ghana (caf) . so i left my home @ 6:00 pm (the match starting time) and i reached the airport @ 7:15 pm then started to meet my team - quickly we went to the counter and .......

it's 11:00 pm Cairo time (in the plane) - i tried to sleep i couldn't .. sadek is sleeping and amr is talking with dr. Salwa

1/2/2010

it's 8:00 am Cairo time- still i can't sleep and amr and Dr.Salwa still talking :D - i swapped the seats with sadek to be beside the window - the view is wonderful

it's 9:00 am Cairo time (3:00 pm @china) we have arrived to Beijing we claimed our Baggages then we went to get our tickets for the next flight (air china flight) and i have lost my jacket :'( "it was new and it was very thick, i have bought to wear in Harbin"

our flight to Harbin is @ 6:10 pm - so we have to wait -- we take a tour in the airport which was soo cool

we found a water and coffee machine i liked this machine very much as it has cups made of paper

you take the paper and you can put the water in it :D - i insisted to take a picture w in front of it

then we move to the gate and i have slept about 1 hour

it's 6:30 pm - in the plane going to Harbin .. "kolo bytklm sene" their English is very bad

the even the tv was in Chinese and all the channels was also in Chinese "D:

then they came with the food ... asked us what do you want " 7aga da ghreba Or noodles with chicken" so we all take noodles :D

it was very very bad meal .. i was hungry i ate all the noodles but could't eat the salad "kan t3mha ghreb"

we have arrived .. then we took our baggages then (my bags' hand had been broken :S) "yade el nella"

we are soo late and the registration will end @ 10:00 pm - it's now 8:30 pm

we have to go quickly to the hotel we have many bags and we can't take them all with us and the bus will move @ 12 pm - so we took a van with (240 RMB = around 200 L.E) and i went (with amr) to outside the airport to put the bags on the Bus

it was -25 C -- it was soo cold and i was freezing ( no jacket - only ice-cap, sweatshirt and scarf)

we felt like some body with no ears and fingers -- and also the floor with was very slippery because of ice - and my glasses were full of "shbora"

it was a very exciting painful and funny minutes we had(me and amr) - but they passed :D

then we moved to the van and went to the hotel - we were in a rush as it was 9:30 pm and we had only 30 minutes to complete our registration.

after the registration we went to the rooms then "Fan" (Chinese volunteer) knocked the door, to tell us that our bags had arrived so i went with her to outside (this time i was only wear the sweet shirt no gloves and no ice-cap and no scarf) other painful moments - but they also passed.

it was a great day full of fun and painful moments.

Google Opportunity(3) -- Phone Interviews

I prayed Istikhara ... as i was so confused should i go on this interviews and dream about being there in Google, or should i stay her with my people ... and look for a job opportunity in Egypt.

then i said i'll go on this thing and if they rejected me i'll not be sad .. as i know that Allah will choose Better things for me.

Today is Tuesday 8/12, i'm very nervous ... i'm saying to my self "if my interviewer talked like the recruiter, i have no chance to pass this interview"

Now it's 8:45 pm at Cairo and 10:45 am PST, i'm setting in front of the laptop, waiting ..

i have just received new e-mail from the software Engineer, he shared with me the Google Document that i should use for coding during the interview.

I took his name and Goggled it , i knew his position and the team he is working on (Internationalization Team) "hardest word ever", this information may be useful.

Now It's 9:00 pm he did the same mistake as the recruiter .. he called the wrong number, But after 5 minutes.. he called me.

"As much as i was afraid of this one, it was the best interview i have ever had in my life till now", that was what i have said after the interview ...

He started by introducing him self as a software engineer working in Google, he asked me to open the document and to be ready to write on it when he ask me to do that.

"it seems that he is not american as his accent is perfect for me" , that was what i told my self

The first question was about my graduation Project..

it was the hardest question for me in that interview, my friends told me to review my graduation project before the interview but i forgot so i started by "..mm.. aa", he asked me to explain it to him, and about my role in it

I couldn't stand that.... so i asked him for a minute, he said "sure"

I spent this minute in taking a deep breath and release it many times..

then I told him "sorry i'm very nervous" and he was so kind and said "never mind we will go through that"

I started to explain my graduation project again to him, i don't think that he understood that well but he skipped this part and switched to another topic.

He asked me about the programming languages i prefer and the most thing i like to do related to computer science.

I told him that i like C++ and Java and my first language is C++, But i choose the programming language according to the type of the task i have to do.

I told him that the most thing i like is coding (i should say logical thinking and analysis :D), but i told him that i'm ACM contestant and i like to solve problems very much.

He asked me about OOP & Data Structures, then he asked me the Algorithmic Question !!

At Google interview he always ask an open ended OR hard question to spend the rest of the interview thinking on it, and i have been told to not answer with the optimal solution, i should say the worst then start to optimize it with him... until reaching the optimal solution (because he is interested to see my thinking process)

He asked me the question, and he told me to answer with the simplest, easiest and the shortest solution(minimum number of code lines) in my mind so i told him N Log N solution ... it was the simplest and the first thing came to my mind.

Then i told him "so let's think how to optimize it" and i started to think, actually i was going to tell him a better solution.. But he shocked me in the next minute :S

He told me that this answer is the optimal solution and that's how they are solving this problem at Google.

It's 9:27, He told me that he finished all questions he had prepared for me :-s and asked me if i have any question to him, I asked him about his job & and what does internationalization team do in Google!!

It's 9:32, I asked him why most of Google products are Beta.. he laughed (ftes mn el d7k) then he told me that he don't know and he never asked him self this question before.

It's 9:37, I told him "i have no more questions, do you have other questions for me?"

He asked me about Python ... we spend about 5 minutes talking about it then he asked me "what happen after writing www.google.com at the browser and hit enter until the page appear?" that was a tough question for me.

I expected that he want to know the detailed answer.. so i told him what i know about that But i stopped and couldn't tell him more..

He completed my answer, i never imagined that he wanted this answer so i told him that and i told him that i know this answer .. and he said yes i believe you do..

Finally he said that he enjoyed this conversation and he asked me for other questions (i don't remember what i have asked him but i remember that i have asked him one question)

then we ended the phone call.

After this interview i was very happy and i said "Thanks Allah, if they rejected me i'll not be sad because i did well and that was the important to me"

Today is Thursday 10/12, Google software engineer who called me at the wrong day sent me a wave telling me that he will do my interview today at 11:00 am PST (9:00 pm here)

At 9:00 pm, He sent me a wave

Hi Mohammad,I'm about to call you. Lets try to use this Wave for code during the interview. Talk to you in a second...I'm about to call you. Lets try to use this Wave for code during the interview. Talk to you in a second...

Then he called me, he had american accent But I told him from the beginning to slowdown as he is a fast talker :D

This time, he didn't ask me any question about languages or concepts.

He asked me Algorithmic question, i answered with O(N squared) solution then i told him O(N log N) solution then O(N) solution.

He asked me to write the last solution so i wrote it, then he asked me what is the test cases i can put to test this code, i told him most of the corner cases.

Then he moved to the next question (Algorithmic too), it was a trivial Dynamic programming problem i tried to get an equation to solve the problem at first but he told me that he don't want a mathematical equation he want a code so i told him a brute force solution then i told him that we can use the old states again so we may use an array to save the old states values.. then he asked me to implement it .

I wrote a simple recursive function with memoization that solve this problem O(N squared)

He asked me about the problem in the recursive version, i told him that it may cause the stack overflow and we can write it iteratively and started to explain how, he wasn't interested to know. But it seemed that he liked my answers, so he said "that's all i have for you, do you have questions for me?"

I asked him the same question about Google Beta products he gave me a diplomatic answer, and then i asked him to explain the role of software engineer in test at Google in more details then he told me that the recruiter will contact me on the next week to tell me either i'm going to move to the next step or not.

Few days later i found an e-mail on my inbox with the title "Google Next Step"

(tak tak tak ... this was my heart beats :D it was so loud)

I opened this email and read it:

Hi Mohammad,
Congratulations, your telephone interviews went well and we would like to
proceed with the process by inviting you to Google’s Headquarters in Mountain
View, CA for a College Day to interview for the Software Engineering position!
Google College Days are action-packed, fun, and intended to give you some
additional insight into how Googlers spend their time!
Google has several college days coming up on 1/08 and 1/15. Please let me know if one of these dates works for you. If not, we can bring you in another day that is convenient for you but it may not be a College Day.
Once I hear from you, I'll follow-up with more details about your visit.

I was so happy to have the opportunity to do onsite interview at Google.

"el7mdllah that i reached this step", I prayed to Allah

If you have watched the video, you will know how much am i lucky to go their even just to see Googleplex from inside !!

I can't travel on 1/08 or 1/15 because of visa processing time (it needs 3 months) so i can't apply for it before the World Finals as i need my passport so i told her that i can't go there on Jan, and it's expected to have the Visa on 15 March, she told me that there is no problems and she asked me to tell her before going to embassy to give me a letter from Google.

and she told me that

Please keep in mind, Google does not have the ability to get you US work authorization at this time due to the US government's quota system for issuing work visas to non-US nationals. The earliest you could being working in the US is October 2010.

"that's fine there is no problem that delaying the interview will cause and that's good", I said to my self

Next week I'll call the embassy to fix interview date so that i can start visa procedure after i return back from China inshaaAllah

Google Opportunity(2) -- The First Call

Then we agreed on making the first phone call on 30/11 @ 1:30 pm PST .. and she told me that will be a non technical call (drdasha) and it'll last 15 minutes.

WOW that's very exciting :D i'm gonna make interview with Google on the phone.
Ohh, i'm very bad in English conversation (rbna yostor)

Now it's : 11:30 pm at Cairo and 1:30 pm PST, i'm waiting the phone call ..

11:35 pm .. still waiting .. checked my inbox, i found email from her telling me that she can't contact me because there is an extra digit on my phone number, i sent her my phone number again then she could call me.

I was very nervous it's my first time to have a phone interview ... and it's in English :-s

she introduced her self again (i didn't hear a word)

she was a very fast talker,american .. and american accent is very hard.

She asked me about the position i want to have in Google and my eligibility to work in US.

she told me many things But i didn't understand a word :D then she asked me why didn't I work till now!!

I told her about the ACM and that i'm not going to have work until returning from the World Finals @ 10/2/2009 inShaaAllah.. she said that it's okay

On that phone call ... i asked her to repeat many times ... i think if i was in front of her she would kick me (and i think she was saying in her mind .. what is that %%#$ :D )

i made her to ask me one question 5 times :D the fifth was " Are .......... You ....... Eligible ........ To ...... Work .......... in .......... US. " (word by word)

One of the situations i had in this interview that i told her "sorry i think it's hard to communicate with me" then she said "No, it's not difficult at all,it's fine ... mmmmm... it's little bit difficult but we will go through that :D" she was very funny Or that was me because of not understanding her easily.

At the end of this call she asked me to tell her my available time for the technical interviews, i told her that i'll check my schedule and send her email with my available times.

So we ended the call, i checked my schedule.. then i sent that "I'll be available on Tuesday 8/12 ,Wednesday 9/12 and Thursday 10/12 at any time between 10:00 AM PST and 1:00 PM PST "

Today is 2/12, i found her reply.. she was telling me that my interviews will be on 8/12 & 10/12 at 11:00 AM PST

After an hour ... i found another email from software eng. working at Google he was telling me that he will interview me after 15 minutes and that he added me on Google wave and shared with me a document on Google docs. for the interview

... Kidding me -- absolutely this is a mistake, so i neglected this email and i went to buy somethings

after 15 minutes, i found my mobile ringing.. it's him. - what to do ? what to do ?

i decided not to reply :D he called me about 3 times then when i returned back to home (after 10 minutes of these calls) i was online on the Google Wave and i found 2 messages from him.

"Hi Mohammad, looks like you can see the Wave :)I'll give you a call in a couple minutes, just going to grab a coffee.I'll give you a call in a couple minutes, just going to grab a coffee."

"Just tried calling... no answer.Do I have the right number?"

so i sent him and explained to him that my interview should be the next week, he apologized for that and told me that he will speak with the recruiter and i can assume that what she told me is correct.

Google Opportunity(1) -- before the interviews

Hello,

From time to time every one goes through some exciting events which he would never forget !!

I had this year lots of exciting events "thank you Allah"

One of them was Google opportunity :D

let's talk about it :

At the first Khaled Hafez who works in Google Zurich have passed my C.V to Google.

After few days (29/10/2009) i received mail telling me that they had my C.V and they want to move forward in my application But they are interested to know my grades so that they asked me to send my undergrad transcripts including the GPA :) and told me "We will contact you if we have a position available which is a strong match."

on this mail too she wanted me to tell her my top three locations between (Boston, Kirkland/Seattle, Mountain View,New York, and Pittsburgh )

On These days i was very busy i don't remember why (i think on ACM training ..) and i also said "i don't think that they gonna love my grades :D " so i didn't sent any thing.

But, after two weeks (13/11/2009) i found the same mail again in my inbox ... so i told my self "what am i gonna lose if i sent the transcript" so i went to FCI and got the transcript "i was going to fight for it in FCI .. you know the routine" then (17/11/2009 @ 10:48 am) i sent it to her and told her "About the top 3 locations, they are :Mountain view, New York and Seattle"

@ 9:04 PM on the same day i received a mail from Google Engineering Recruiter, it was a very long mail i'll cut here some parts of it:

But the regional contest is on 24/11 :D i don't want to lose my concentration or think on any other thing so i asked her to postpone these procedures till the Regional contest ..

At the first i told her we may make the interview at 25/11 @ 4 am PST :D "i was so stupid ... 4 am :D (ya raaaaaaaageeeeeel) it will be 1 or 2 pm here But 4 am on USA"

i expected her reply and it was, she told me that she is not available at this time ... then we agreed on making the first phone call on 30/11 @ 1:30 pm PST .. and she told me that will be a non technical call (drdasha) and it'll last 15 minutes.

WOW that's very exciting :D i'm gonna make interview with Google on the phone.

لاكتشاف الطلاب الموهوبين علميا ورعايتهم وتدريبهم وتنمية قدراتهم علي التفكير العلمي أعلنت جامعة القاهرة عن الطلاب الفائزين في مسابقة البحوث العلمية لعام‏2008‏ ــ‏2009‏ وسوف يقوم الدكتور حسام كامل رئيس الجامعة والدكتور عادل زايد نائب رئيس الجامعة لشئون التعليم والطلاب بتكريم هؤلاء الطلاب وتوزيع الجوائز التي بلغت‏50‏ ألف جنيه عليهم‏.‏

On Tuesday 24/11/2009 @ 10:00 am The Arab & North Africa Regional ACM International Programming Contest had started

And After 5 hours of solving and thinking and after "twfe2 kber gdan mn rbna" we managed to solve 8 problems in 10 submittions

Which allowed Us to gain The First place and The Solid Programmers award

... really i have many many stories to tell, and i'll write them one after other on the blog isAllah.

But now,I want to thank some people who really was the main reason after Allah :

My Mother & sisters & family they really are the reason for this win .. for their support and praying for me

The great Coach : Mohammad Mahmoud Abd el Wahab (MMAW) "really can't find words to express how much i'm grateful to him" But he did a great effort with us and if they would only gonna give the honor to only one that will be the coach

My Team mates (amr samir, ahmed sadek) you are my mates and friends and i'd never have achieve that with out you

The ACM ICPC North Africa & Middle East Regional Contest will be held at 22-24 November on Alexandria (AAST) http://acm.aast.edu/

This is my first participation on the regional contest and i hope it's not the last one

BUT there is a fact that states "no new teams ever have won the regional contest" :D

and my team is a new team with all new members who are :

Mohammad Refaat, Amr Samir, Ahmed AbdElsadek (contestants)

Mohammad AbdELwahab (coach)

For me the Regional Contest is like "Algeria V.S Egypt" match, it's the match which will decide whether Egypt is going to qualify to World Finals or not.

can u imagine how much they are practicing for this match , how long they have been training

The same here, the Regional Contest will determine either i'm going to World Finals "which is low possibility for such a new team " .. or .. after these very hard days of training i'm going to not qualify to World Finals.

To qualify to the World Finals i have to win the Regional Contest by having the First position.

I know i'm not the best, But i really tried very hard, i have left many things to reach this place and to have a chance to participate in the Regional Contest and to have a chance for qualifying to the World Finals.

i was reading a blog of some one i have meet from Alex University his name is "Mohammad Kotb" ,,, and i found a very interesting topic, actually it was a video from " Sayed Abo Hafiza - Nashret akhbar el akhmesa we el 3shron"... it was an episode talking about some of abo haifza's dreams !!!

please see this video and tell me why these are only dreams ??

will this day come, when we could achieve all these dreams ??

really i don't know what should i do ... i was laughing while seeing this video, But i think i should cry...

it's my first time to write a technical topic on the blog, as i wanted this blog to be my personal not technical pages .. discuss my life and my opinions
But ....
5 days ago. in my ACM training Eng. M.M.A.Wahab told me that:
"There are the same number of rational numbers as natural numbers" (how .. rational are more??)
"There are the same number of Integer numbers as natural numbers" (Are you kidding me ?)

i didn't believe he tried to convene me, But i didn't...
After i went back to home, i started to Google that.. and i opened the discrete mathematics book to check that.

It was a big shock to find out that is true... i found theorems and proofs about that..
so i managed to proof that here.

Before starting my proofs i have to define some terminologies:

1- Function:
In mathematics F(X) said to be a function where for every X in it's domain it produce a value on corresponding co-domain
2- Injective function:
In mathematics injective function is a function which associates distinct arguments with distinct values; that is, every unique argument produces a unique result (wikipedia)
3- Surjective function:
In mathematics, a function f is said to be surjective, if its values span its whole co-domain; that is, for every y in the co-domain there is at least one x in the domain such that f(x) = y (wikipedia)
4- Bijective function:
In mathematics, a bijective function is a function f from a set X to a set Y with the property that, for every y in Y there is exactly one x in X such that f(x) = y.
Alternatively, f is bijective if it is injective & surjective (wikipedia)

if f(x)->y is bijective then the cardinality of the domain X = the cardinality of the co-domain Y

So lets move to our proofs.
1- "There are the same number of rational numbers as natural numbers"

Assume Q is rational numbers, N is natural number
we must exhibit a one-to-one relationship"bijection" between Q & N
we will write Q as :

1st row denominator 1, 2nd row denominator 2 .. etc.

we can see that as a rectangular array that contain all rational numbers .. But there are some repetitions like 1/1 & 2/2 ....

Now we will try to map every rational number to a natural number (counting)

this is like a ZIGZAG shape i have started from
0 associate it with 0
then
1/2 associate it with 1
then
-1/1 associate it with 2
... etc.(neglect repeated values)

using this method we can give every rational number a natural number..
and the correspondence will be like that :

and that matching will cover all of Q and all of natural numbers.

Is this relation Injective ??
yes it's injective as for every number in natural numbers there exists only one value of rational number it could match
Is this relation Surjective ??
yes, as there is no value in the co-domain rational number that can't be mapped to one natural number

So this relation is bijective --> then the cardinality of the domain = the cardinality of co-domain

Let us define functions :

a- abs(X) = X if(X>=0)
abs(X) = -1*X if(X<0)

b- sign(X) = 1 if(x>0)
sign(X) = 0 if(X<=0)

F(X) --> 2*abs(X) - sign(X)

where X belongs to Integers and F(X) belongs to natural numbers
F(0) = 0, F(1) = 1, F(-1) = 2, F(2) = 3 ....

This function is Injective where every element in Co-domain(Natural Numbers) there exists only 1 Integer number it could match

This function is Surjective where every element in Co-domain is covered using a corresponding value in domain

So this function is bijection "Cardinality of Co-domain = Cardinality of Domain"
then
|Integer Numbers| = |Natural Numbers| ..... #R.T.P

DONE :D

what a mess ?? How can the cardinality of Integer Numbers = Cardinality of Natural Numbers
are Negative Numbers don't exist :S

But ... these proofs are right and you can find it on discrete and mathematics book when you search about countable sets & Contar's thearom

But i think that's all because INFINITY is not defined.. if infinity was defined all these theorem and proofs will be wrong...

BUT FOR NOW THEY ARE TRUE

Ahmed Salah Darwish : he said to me that i'm smart and he was always motivating me to be better

Hussien Hesham : he told me about the ACM, said to me that i can do well in it.

Eng. Shrief Zahran : he taught me how to be patient, how to do all i can then be sure that "Allah will give us the best ever output"(JOB FAIR 2006)

Eng. Sara Amr : she was my older sister, helped me and advised me many times

Dr.Samir Abd-ElRahaman :
the best Doctor i have ever met, i liked his way in explaining he introduced to me the Art of Explaining and teaching and he made me like teaching.
and also he supported me, believes in me... and helped me many times.

i can't tell, really i have to thank this man for many many many things,
for being my older brother, advisor, teacher, coach and for being always there for me.

For Better FCI (UTOPIA*)

Last time i wrote a topic i got many comments on how am i talking about our GREAT FCI in that way...

and because "الإعتراف بالحق فضيله"

and i have to say "اللي ليا و اللي عليا"

I admit that without FCI, i would never reach what I'm in now.

But what am i in now ?? :D

It's a very hard thing to be a successful person, and I'm not.

and it's a very simple thing to be a Failed person, and I'm not.

I have dreamed to become a successful person when i finish my 4 years in FCI.

and I'm in the last one and i have not become this person yet ....

I'm trying to convince my self that FCI is not UTOPIA*.

But, The problem is when i knew about FCI, I thought that FCI would be a heaven for some one like me, who spent all his life loving computers.

I DON'T KNOW What are my feelings toward FCI right now

but what i believe that i don't hate it.

I just dream of it to be a better place.

i dream that one day FCI becomes the best Computer Science Faculty ever.

with the best staff and even students.

.... to say "اللي عليا"

FCI is better than many faculties in Egypt.

FCI has some amazing TA.s and Doctors.

FCI has many friends i can't imagine my life without them.

--- But the Fact is FCI is going worse year after year, staff and even Students are becoming worse and worse

--- If you compared between FCI from 4 years and Students level and reputation these days and nowadays you will notice the difference.

so what we are missing nowadays to become better ??

I said better than many faculties in Egypt : But we need to be the best ever.
I said some amazing Doctors and TA.s : But we need them to be the majority.

We need to change Students Mentality.

We need to fix Doctors & TA.s and even Students view to the Education Process.

OUR FCI is not Staff only and not Students only

sorry but i have to say that the problem is not in the staff only it's in the students too.

two days ago....

i was hearing a radio called teet radio

the most thing i like in this one "بغض النظر على اعتراضي على حاجات كتير فيهم" that they started with only 7 persons who wants to fix anything in our country.

and they managed in "يوم و ليله"to make an online radio to raise their voice and to express their opinions. (Because they have no thing to do except expressing their opinions)

they started as 7 from 70,000,000 person in Egypt.

and now they are a large community who are going to change something one day.

what about us we are maximum 1000 person in FCI

so what if only 5 or 10 persons who can not only express their opinions But they can affect others and change many things in FCI.

they can change many things, But they has to start doing anything at least express their opinions and ideas. (and they can do more than that)

I want to be one of these 5 persons who will do that, and i have many plans for making the change.

I want to be one of these 5 persons who will make FCI a Utopia* one day ...

what about you ?

*Utopia is a name for an ideal community or society (read Plato's imagination of Utopia)

Hello,
long time no see,
you know it's midyear vacation.

PS: "it's called midyear vacation, But it wasn't my midyear vacation as i had many many many things to do and I'm going to talk about that on a later post isAllah"

A week ago, i was at my coach's home, we were talking about TopCoder forum topic called : "you know you are a TopCoder when .."

He actually was talking about a situation happens to us all (C++,JAVA programmers):
when we are chatting or writing statements any where "we terminate our statements with semicolon instead of dot"

The important things is, when i went home this night i open the TopCoder forum and start looking for this topic, then i found it start reading it.
i liked this topic very much it's amazing really, this topic had started from 2003 and still active till now.

I book marked it and every day i check it and read few pages.

Many of you know that i'm watching Anime called "Naruto"
Many of you make jokes on me, How am i 20 years old and i'm watching Anime till now

I didn't say all of you :D As i know there are good People who watch naruto too.

But, let me explain why i'm watching this anime, and why i like it soo much.

The Story

In the Ninja World there is exist country called Konoha of boy 9 years old he has no talent at all, not smart and was the worst student in the school (Not only that he was hated too..)
But he was always dreaming to be the Hokage (the best ninja in the village-president) and to make other people acknowledge him as a great Ninja
IN this world Ninja the best ninja village ( strongest with the best fighters ) ......

The Idea

the idea here, is Although this kid has no talent and isn't smart he is going to Achieve his dreams by hardworking
the point here is the Japanese and Chinese people philosophy and believes that the hardworking and self trusting is the way to be the best.
the point here that these people who are going to be the leader of the Earth in a few years is thinking and trying to give the kids their mission and their goal using just a basic idea (very simple animation -- has not much graphics effects)
they are people who have goal and their goal to be the best,
and they know that it's not important to be smart or have talent to achieve your goal
But it's important to hard work for this goal
The anime shows you how this kid with only his hardworking and with the worst thing in him (Kuyba) he can achieve what he wants.

The Conclusion

Really i believe in this people and i believe in their ability and i believe that one day they will be the best on the earth by their hard working
i believe that you can do any thing without having special talent or being smart
you can learn to be smart you can learn do be expert.
They know that: In the beginning the one who have the talent will win
But after all if you work hard you will be better than him.
If you saw the Olympiad opening this year or the Chinese products or Japanese ones
you aknowledge them, despite this people from 30 years was No thing.
